A Maidstone courier‘s job can certainly be hard work, and we here at JDL Deliveries are certainly used to rolling up our sleeves and getting the job done on your behalf.  However not only is there the need to keep our vans in tip top shape, the need arises for us to do the same with our drivers too!

On of the best methods for staying healthy in your working environment is to increase your hydration.  Basically your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work correctly.  Water makes up more than half of your body weight. You lose water each day when you go to the bathroom, sweat, and even when you breathe. You lose water even faster when the weather is really hot, when you are physically active, or if you have a fever. Vomiting and diarrhea can also lead to rapid water loss. If you don’t replace the water you lose, you can become dehydrated.

You might well have heard different recommendations for daily water intake. Most people have been told they should drink 6 to 8 8-oz glasses of water each day, but this can be a bit boring on intake.  Therefore vary it up a bit; soup, fruits (eg water melons or tomatoes) as well as drinks like fruit and vegetable juices, milk, and herbal teas can contribute to the amount of water you get each day.

Also as an aside, when you’re feeling hungry, try to drink water instead of eating snacks. Thirst is often confused with hunger.  Whilst it is true that genuine hunger will not be satisfied by drinking water, faux hunger is easily sated.  If you’re on a diet, remember that drinking water may also contribute to a healthy weight-loss plan as research suggests that drinking water can help you feel full.

So although health blogging isn’t this Kent courier‘s specialty,  we hope that we’ve made enough of a decent stab at extolling our limited knowledge of hydration & you found it useful enough!
